Sunday River
Starting out snowboarding can feel a little intimidating, but Sunday River makes it so much easier and less scary. For real, this place is beginner heaven. The South Ridge area is full of wide, mellow green trails that give you room to practice those toe-to-heel turns without worrying about taking out other riders (or yourself). Plus, their snowboarding school is fantastic if you feel like you need some coaching.
Loon Mountain Resort
Once you’re ready for more, Loon Mountain is a solid next step. Its blue trails are friendly and not overly intimidating, making it ideal for beginners transitioning to intermediate terrain. Loon also has a family-friendly atmosphere and plenty of gentle, groomed runs that’ll help build your confidence.
Sugarloaf
If you’re up for more adventure, Sugarloaf is your place. While it has its fair share of challenging terrain, it’s also home to some mellow beginner runs and wide-open blues. Plus, Sugarloaf’s glade runs are perfect for when you’re feeling brave and ready to experience something new. The long drive from Boston might be a trek, but the remote, stunning scenery and unbeatable snow conditions make it worth it.
And for those based in Boston, Loon is a quick two-hour drive, making it the best choice for spontaneous day trips. Sunday River is doable for a day if you’re an early riser and okay with a three-hour drive, while Sugarloaf is perfect for a weekend getaway to fully immerse yourself in the mountain vibe.
